I-25 and Santa Fe Drive

Statewide – On July 11, 2011, CDOT began improvements to the I-25/Santa Fe Drive interchange to improve traffic flow, safety and mobility in the area. This $32.1 million project is nearly complete and set to wrap up just after the first of the year. The project includes replacement of the existing I-25 bridges over Santa Fe Drive, originally constructed in 1958. A new flyover ramp from northbound Santa Fe Drive to northbound I-25 was constructed, which eliminated the left side on-ramp, improving safety and traffic congestion in the area. Realignments of northbound and southbound Santa Fe Drive near I-25 and realignment of I-25 from the north end of Broadway to just south of Alameda have improved traffic flow and capacity of the area.

An additional project is in design to utilize the existing width of I-25 and expand the roadway from three lanes to four lanes up to 6^th Avenue. Currently, the 4^th lane from Alameda to 6^th Avenue is used as a continuous lane from the heavily utilized northbound Santa Fe on ramp.

Speed limits have been temporarily reduced to 45 mph in the construction zone. Those travelling in the area are advised to allow for extra travel time, and are urged to drive Slow for the Cone Zone!
