I-76 Resurfacing Project Between Sedgwick and Nebraska Complete
SEDGWICK COUNTY — The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has completed an interstate resurfacing project in the eastbound lanes of I-76 from Sedgwick to the Nebraska state line near Julesburg. The project began in April 2013, and finished on time and on budget. Some minor finishing work will continue through the month of November.
“This project will not only extend the life of the interstate, but will create a smoother drive for motorists,” said Project Engineer Jeff Vickers. “It also connects several sections of I-76 that have been resurfaced in the past few years.”
For the resurfacing, new erosion control, guardrails, and striping improvements were made to I-76. Additionally, accommodations were made to allow for wider turns for truckers both at the Julesburg rest area roundabout as well as the off- and on-ramps to and from I-76 leading into the town of Julesburg.
In partnership with the Town of Julesburg, CDOT also made improvements to 1st Street through downtown Julesburg from Plum Street to Ash Street. Along 1st Street, crews constructed new sidewalks in accordance with American Disabilities Act (ADA) specifications, and made drainage improvements to the roadway.
“This project helped increase the accessibility of 1st Street not only for residents and visitors, but also for those who need ADA accommodations,” said Julesburg Town Manager Allen Coyne. “Aesthetically, the project also helped improve the overall look and feel of downtown Julesburg.”
This project was contracted to Interstate Highway Construction for $13.9 million, including $300,000 contributed in partnership by the Town of Julesburg.
