I-25 Bridge work scheduled early next week

November 22, 2013 - Southeastern Colorado/CDOT Region 2 - EL PASO COUNTY – The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will close the right lane of northbound Interstate 25 at the South Academy Boulevard Bridge on Monday and Tuesday (November 25/26) for waterproofing, paving and expansion joint work.

Drivers can expect slowdowns and delays through the area while traffic is reduced to one lane from 10 a.m. to about 4 p.m. each day.  Alternate routes are advised, including State Highway 16 (Exit 132) to U.S. 85 and back to northbound I-25.

“We’ve completed the work on the left lane and just have to complete the right lane,” said CDOT Resident Engineer Dave Watt.  “We normally work on I-25 in the urban areas during the night but the overnight temperatures at this time of year won’t allow us to effectively waterproof and pave.  However, the road surface will be much smoother, reducing vehicle wear and tear and extending the lifespan of the structure.”
