SH 82 Grand Avenue Pedestrian Bridge “Story Poling” Event Tomorrow

October 15, 2013 - Northwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 3 - GLENWOOD SPRINGS – The SH 82 Grand Avenue Bridge project team is hosting another story poling event, this time to provide a visual perspective of the proposed pedestrian bridge ramp to 7th Street. Members of the team will be on location, showing the width and height of an ADA-compliant pedestrian ramp.

The poling will be available for viewing on October 16, from 12:30 p.m to 5:30 p.m. The story poles will show the south side (façade) of the upper and lower ramps. The ramp structure depth is about 12 inches and there is an open railing.

“We have found that story poling gives the public a very accurate depiction of what an improvement will look like, to scale and at its location,” CDOT Region 3 Central Program Engineer Joe Elsen said. “It’s a step beyond looking at a rendering as it enables people to view the structure from different vantage points.”

The story poling is being set up this week primarily to provide City Council an opportunity to view the proposed pedestrian bridge ramp prior this Thursday’s council meeting, at which they will vote on this option or its alternative, an elevator. The primary differences between the ramp and elevator options are aesthetics, maintenance costs and security.

Information and documentation on the project are posted at www.sh82grandavenuebridge.com. Interested citizens are encouraged to sign up to receive SH 82 corridor updates via CDOT's free message system by going to www.coloradodot.info and clicking on the green cell phone in the upper right-hand corner of the page.
