Travel Impacts on US 50 over Monarch Pass for Special Use Permit

September 19, 2013 - Southwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 5 - CHAFFEE COUNTY – Universal Pictures is using US 50 over Monarch Pass to shoot scenes for an upcoming film. This production work will be done at various locations between mile marker (MM) 190 at Sargents and MM 206 in the Monarch/Garfield area.

During the production work, completed under a Colorado State Patrol (CSP) special use permit, traffic control (including CSP management) will be handled like that of a regular construction zone. A lowered speed limit and some traffic stops controlled by flagging personnel will be in place.

TRAVEL IMPACTS: Through the project’s completion in mid-October, motorists along this route will encounter some intermittent traffic stops in both directions, Monday through Friday, between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. These traffic stops will not be continuous throughout the day, and will not exceed 30 minutes (typically, the holds will be 20 minutes or less). Please note, however, the driver delay time will exceed the 20- to 30-minute holds, as traffic queues must be cleared in each direction.

With questions or comments regarding the project or traffic impacts, the public may call the project information line at 719-530-5007. Information about other CDOT projects is also available at www.cotrip.org or by calling 511 from anywhere in the state.
