Wadsworth Parkway Work Requires Ramp and Roadway Closures This Weekend
The closures include:
- Wadsworth Parkway on-ramp to eastbound US 36 – Aug. 23-24: The ramp will close starting at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 23, and reopen atmidnight on Saturday, Aug. 24. This closure is necessary for storm drain installation and bikeway crossing construction. Traffic will be detoured to the Wadsworth on-ramp to westbound US 36 and then to East Flatiron to access eastbound US 36.
- Northbound and southbound Wadsworth Parkway – Aug. 24-26: Once the Wadsworth Parkway on-ramp opens at midnight on Saturday, northbound and southbound Wadsworth Parkway will be closed on each side of the bridge to all traffic to reconfigure the roadway. It will reopen to traffic at 5:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 26. Traffic will be detoured at the on and off ramps.
Delays are expected in the area, and drivers are encouraged to find alternate routes. CDOT would like to remind motorists to obey all construction signs and flaggers and to “Slow for the Cone Zone.”
“We are getting closer to the completion of the new Wadsworth Parkway bridge later this fall,” said CDOT Project Director Mark Gosselin. “We need to finish the construction of some of the major elements, and while we recognize that closures are an inconvenience, the new efficiency of this bridge will be a major benefit to the community in the near future.”
After the weekend work on Wadsworth, the following elements will be complete:
- The new northbound Wadsworth Parkway on-ramp to eastbound US 36 will be open.
- The traffic will be switched onto the new eastbound US 36 off-ramp to Wadsworth Parkway.
- The bikeway underpass will be installed underneath the new Wadsworth Parkway on-ramp to eastbound US 36 although it will not yet be open to cyclists.
- Wadsworth Parkway will be reconfigured for the next phase of getting traffic on the new bridge in the coming weeks.
The US 36 Express Lanes Project is a multi-modal project that will build an express lane in each direction on US 36. The lanes will accommodate High Occupancy Vehicles (HOV), Bus Rapid Transit and tolled Single Occupancy Vehicles. In addition, the project will replace several bridges, build a commuter bikeway, add Bus Rapid Transit improvements, and install Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) for tolling, transit and traveler information, and incident management. Phase 1, currently under construction, will build the project from Federal Boulevard to 88th Street in Louisville/Superior. Phase 2, which is expected to begin construction this winter, will extend the project from 88th Street to Table Mesa in Boulder.
Ames/Granite Joint Venture team is the design-build contractor for the project, which began in summer 2012 and will open to the public in January 2015. Phase 2 will open to the public in January 2016.
