Today’s Highway Impacts for USA Pro Challenge

August 20,2013 - Northwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 3 - ASPEN — The USA Pro Challenge (USAPC) takes the riders from Aspen to Breckenridge today, impacting four state highways en route.

Drivers can anticipate the following state road closures (all closure times approximate):

  • State Highway 82 east from Aspen, over Independence Pass to U.S. 24, east of Twin Lakes – closed to traffic beginning at 7 a.m.

o  PLEASE NOTE: Only DAYTIME parking is permitted in most locations on Independence Pass between mile 56 & 66 – located east and west of the pass summit.  Signing is in place designating allowable parking locations.

  • U.S. 24 south from SH 82 to Buena Vista – closed at 11 a.m.
  • U.S. 24/U.S. 285 east from Johnson Village to Antero Junction – closed at 12:30 p.m.
  • U.S. 285 north to Fairplay – closed at 12:45 p.m.
  • SH 9 north from Fairplay, over Hoosier Pass to Breckenridge – closed at 1:45 p.m.

The times for delays and closures are estimates only and may be subject to change depending on the pace of the riders, weather, and other unforeseen circumstances. The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) reminds motorists to obey road signs, the Colorado State Patrol, and race officials.

In addition to the state highways, other impacted roadways include Main Street and Court from Buena Vista to Johnson Village, and French Street, Wellington Avenue, Boreas Pass and Main Street in Breckenridge.

Over the next six days, USAPC traveler information will be available at the CDOT website:www.cotrip.org/content/usapcc/.  It lists all highways impacted by each race stage, and also refers visitors to official websites for local road closures. The site also contains information for motorists regarding anticipated delays, oversize/overweight restrictions, suggested alternative routes, long-term parking information, and answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs).

Tomorrow’s Highway Impacts:

  • August 21/Stage 3 from Breckenridge to Steamboat Springs: SH 9 north to Kremmling, U.S. 40 west to Steamboat Springs.  Impacts begin at 10 a.m. and end at approximately 4 p.m.
