Resurfacing Begins Next Week on I-70 Near Flagler

August 9, 2013 - UPCOMING CONSTRUCTION PROJECT - Northeastern Colorado/CDOT Region 4 - Work will extend the life of the highway, create smoother driving surface.

KIT CARSON/LINCOLN COUNTIES — Beginning mid-August, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will be resurfacing a 15 mile segment of I-70 between Flagler and the town of Genoa. The project will span from mile marker (MM) 380 to MM 395.1 in both Kit Carson and Lincoln Counties, where crews will mill the existing asphalt and fill the area with new asphalt to create a more durable and longer-lasting roadway.

“This project will help increase the lifespan of the highway in addition to creating a much smoother driving surface for motorists,” said Project Engineer Scott Kimble. “A smoother ride will reduce the wear and tear on vehicles, and will also help lower vehicle maintenance costs.”

Work will take place in both the westbound and eastbound lanes of I-70 throughout the project, and single lane closures should be expected for both directions of traffic. Work will take place Mondays through Fridays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day, but no major delays are expected for the project. Motorists are urged to obey all traffic signs, and to drive Slow for the Cone Zone, as the speed limit in the work zone will be reduced to 45 MPH.

Martin Marietta Materials is the contractor for this $8 million project, which is scheduled for completion by November 2013.

Motorists who would like more information about the project are encouraged to call the public information phone line at 719-356-7844, or can email the project team at [email protected].
