Cyclists head North for Stage Three of USA Pro Challenge

August 21, 2013 - Northwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 3 - BRECKENRIDGE — Riders in the USA Pro Challenge (USAPC) will be traveling from Breckenridge to Steamboat Springs today, impacting two state roadways along the 106-mile route.

Drivers can anticipate closures on the following highways (closure times are approximate):

State Highway 9 southbound from Swan Mountain Road to Breckenridge – closed noon to 1 p.m.

o PLEAESE NOTE: No SH 9 closures between Swan Mountain Road and Interstate 70. However, closures should be anticipated along the short segment of U.S. 6 between Swan Mountain Road and I-70 from noon to 1:30 p.m.

Off-ramps from I-70 to Silverthorne (Exit 205) CLOSED to traffic from noon until 1:30 p.m.
State Highway 9 southbound between Silverthorne and Kremmling – closed 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
SH 9 northbound between Silverthorne and Kremmling will remain open to traffic during this time. However, drivers using this route will be following the race and traveling slower than normal. Expect delays.
U.S. 40 eastbound between Kremmling and Steamboat Springs, including Rabbit Ears Pass – closed from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
U.S. 40 westbound between Kremmling and Steamboat Springs will remain open to traffic during this time. However, drivers using this route will be following the race and traveling slower than normal. Expect delays.

To avoid the race, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) suggests motorists use I-70, SH 131 and SH 134.

The times for delays and closures are estimates only and may be subject to change depending on the pace of the riders, weather, and other unforeseen circumstances. CDOT reminds drivers to obey road signs, the Colorado State Patrol, and race officials.

In addition to the state highways, other impacted roadways include Swan Mountain Road from SH 9 to U.S. 6, and Heeney Road around Green Mountain Reservoir.

Over the next five days, USAPC traveler information will be available at the CDOT website: www.cotrip.org/content/usapcc/. It lists all highways impacted by each race stage, and also refers visitors to official websites for local road closures. The site also contains information for motorists regarding anticipated delays, oversize/overweight restrictions, suggested alternative routes, long-term parking information, and answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs).
