Work underway on I-25 Improvement Project

In addition to rotomilling and asphalt paving five miles of I-25, between the Midway Interchange (Exit 119) and the Ray Nixon Power Plant (mile 119 – 124), the project also includes bridge deck repairs, and sign replacements.

Drivers should anticipate single lane closures on northbound or southbound I-25 from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday.  The speed limit is reduced to 45 mph through the project area during work hours.

Deck repairs are taking place on the northbound and/or southbound bridges at Little Fountain Creek, Rock Creek, a couple of dry channels and at County Road 415 (Exit 122 – PPIR)

“This project will give the traveling public a smoother road surface that’ll last at least 10 years,” said CDOT Resident Engineer Dave Watt.  “The bridge rehabs will extend the lifespan of all the structures for several years as well.  And the new signs and striping should enhance traveler safety since it’ll improve highway visibility, especially at night.”

The work through south El Paso County is the first of two project phases.  The second phase will repair a number of I-25 bridges through Colorado Springs.  Additional information will be forthcoming when that phase begins later this month.

Schmidt Construction Co. of Colorado Springs is the contractor for the $5.6 million project.  It is scheduled for completion in November 2013.
