US 160 Over Wolf Creek Pass Set to Open at 6 A.M. Tomorrow Morning
MINERAL/RIO GRANDE COUNTIES – The Colorado Department of Transportation will reopen US 160 over Wolf Creek Pass tomorrow morning (Saturday, June 29) at 6 a.m. to all traffic. The road closure began on June 20 at 2:21 p.m. due to area fires. Until the highway reopens, motorists will continue to use the alternate southern route between Alamosa and Pagosa Springs is US 285 from Alamosa to SH 17 (Cumbres/La Manga Pass) to US 84 into Pagosa Springs.
The multi-agency/multi-jurisdictional incident command team determined that, barring any major change in fire behavior, the reopening of the highway could move forward as planned. Because conditions could change, all travelers are urged to check road conditions (www.cotrip.org) before each planned trip. Notifications regarding a reopening of SH 149 will continue to be posted as well.
State Highway 149, between South Fork and Creede (a 22-mile stretch) has been closed since June 21 at 9 a.m. The alternate route from east to west is US 285 from Monte Vista to SH 114 (North Pass), to US 50 at Montrose and then US 550 to Durango.
PLEASE NOTE: It is possible that US 160 may need to be closed again, depending upon fire activity. Travelers must check CDOT’s traveler information site at www.cotrip.orgbefore making travel plans.
