SH 149 is Open, With Pilot Car Operations During Day, Free Passage at Night

MINERAL/RIO GRANDE COUNTIES – The Colorado Department of Transportation reopened US 160 over Wolf Creek Pass today at 6 a.m. to all traffic. (The road closure began on June 20 at 2:21 p.m. due to area fires.)

Because conditions could change, all travelers are urged to check road conditions (www.cotrip.org) before each planned trip. Notifications regarding a reopening of SH 149 will continue to be posted as well.

State Highway 149, between South Fork and Creede (a 22-mile stretch) is open with pilot car operations during the day, and open with a check point at night. From 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., pilot cars are escorting travelers southbound on the hour, every hour. Northbound travelers are being escorted on the half hour, every hour. At night, from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m., motorist can proceed along the highway after stopping at a safety check points at either end; these check points are manned by the Colorado National Guard.

PLEASE NOTE: It is possible that the conditions on US 160 and SH 149 may change, depending upon fire activity. Travelers must check CDOT’s traveler information site at www.cotrip.org before making travel plans.
