Resurfacing Project on State Highway 317 Underway

June 17, 2013 - UPCOMING CONSTRUCTION PROJECT - Northwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 3 - Partnering between CDOT and Shell moves project forward.

MOFFAT/ROUTT COUNTIES — Work is underway on a project between the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), Shell, and Moffat County on State Highway (SH) 317 east of Hamilton. Crews will be resurfacing an 8.5 mile long section of highway from mile marker (MM) 0 to MM 8.5, which is the stretch from SH 13 east of Moffat County Road 37.

“This partnering is one of the first like it in the state,” said CDOT Regional Transportation Director David Eller. “This situation is a perfect example of how many of our highways need infrastructure improvements, but the funding is hard to come by. We are so thankful to Shell for coming forward and working with us on this project so that we can make the highway safer, and smoother, for the Moffat County community.”

In addition to creating a safer and smoother roadway surface, the project will eliminate the need for seasonal weight restrictions due to spring freeze/thaw cycles. Also as part of the project, drainage and safety improvements will also be made to the highway. Shell has hired Connell Resources and SGM Inc. to design and build the project, which is expected to be complete in late August. The Moffat County community will further benefit from the project due to the fact that subcontractors are urged to be located near the project, thereby helping boost the local economy.

Crews will be working from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays effective immediately, with some workdays extending to a 6 a.m. start and a7 p.m. finish. One lane of traffic will always remain open to motorists, and delays should be minimal. CDOT reminds motorists to obey all traffic signs and flaggers, and to drive Slow for the Cone Zone!
