24/7 Detour Begins Tomorrow at Midnight on State Highway 14 Near Ault

June 10, 2013 - TRAFFIC ADVISORY - Northeastern Colorado/CDOT Region 4 - Detour will last 28 days and allows crews to build new bridge and reconstruct the roadway.

WELD COUNTY — Beginning at midnight Tuesday night, June 11 (going into Wednesday, June 12) and lasting for 28 days until Tuesday, July 10, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will have a detour in place on State Highway (SH) 14 as part of a bridge replacement over the Coal Bank Creek, located three miles west of Ault and east of the I-25 intersection at mile marker 149. The 24/7 detour will require motorists to use SH 257, SH 392, and US 85 so crews can build a new bridge and reconstruct the roadway. Originally built in 1935, the existing bridge is structurally deficient and warrants replacement as a part of the Colorado Bridge Enterprise (CBE), which is part of the Funding Advancement for Surface Transportation and Economic Recovery (FASTER) legislation. The bridge is being replaced with a wider and higher structure that meets current standards. So far, crews have widened the roadway, installed new storm drainage piping, and relocated utility lines. Many Colorado bridges are in poor condition, and by replacing the Coal Bank Creek bridge, CDOT will create a safer trip for drivers in addition to improving drainage through the area.

SEMA Construction Inc. of Centennial, CO. is the contractor for this $3.7 million project, which is scheduled for completion in September 2013.
