Ramp from Mississippi Avenue to Southbound I-225 Will Close for Reconstruction Starting Tonight
This will be a continuous closure from 9 p.m. on Friday, May 3rd to 5:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 23rd. Periods of inactivity should be expected due to required cure times for both subgrade and paving materials.
The following two detours will be provided for traffic to access southbound I-225 from Mississippi Avenue:
- Detour via Peoria Street: Motorists can go south on Peoria Street from Mississippi Avenue, then east on Iliff Avenue to southbound I-225.
- Detour via South Abilene Street: Motorists can go south on Abilene Street from Mississippi Avenue, then west on Iliff Avenue to southbound I-225.
Delays are possible in the area and alternate routes are strongly advised. CDOT would like to remind motorists to obey all construction signs and flaggers and to “Slow for the Cone Zone.”
The work is part of a project that widens I-225 between Mississippi Avenue and Parker Road to accommodate three lanes in each direction with an additional auxiliary lane. In addition, the Yale Avenue bridge over I-225 will be replaced and other minor roadway elements will be completed to accommodate RTD’s extension of light rail from Parker Road to Iliff Avenue.
SEMA Construction Co. is the contractor of this $43 million project scheduled to be complete by the end of July 2014. The project is being funded by CDOT and RTD.
