US 160/550 Frontage Road Access Closure at East Turner Drive
DURANGO – As part of the Colorado Department of Transportation access permit for the new Mercury Village in Bodo, the US 160/550 exit to the east-side Frontage Road at East Turner Drive will close this Monday, April 22, at 8:30 a.m. Mercury Payment System’s contractor, Okland Construction, is reconstructing the second phase of the new “right-in/right-out” alignment for traffic using this intersection, which lies just south of the Storyteller Theaters & the Durango Mall.
The right-turn access to eastbound East Turner Drive will open on Monday May 6. During the closure, work and traffic impacts will involve the following:
- The two northbound lanes of US 160/550 will be shifted around the work zone at East Turner Drive; the speed limit will be reduced to 40 MPH for the duration of this lane shift;
- To implement this lane shift, northbound traffic will be temporarily reduced to one lane on the morning of April 22 only so that temporary striping can be placed;
- For the two-week duration of this Phase 2 construction, access to the mall and theater will only be available at the mall’s main entrance at Sawyer Drive;
- Beginning Monday, May 6, the new East Turner Drive access can be used to get to the mall via Trans-Lux Drive (as well as Sawyer Drive, as always);
- Traffic leaving the mall back to US 160/550 will continue to use only Sawyer Drive until Phase 3 construction of the westbound (outgoing) East Turner Drive access to the highway is opened; this is expected to be completed by mid-June.
