Realignment Work to Close the Ramp from Southbound I-225 to Parker Road Next Week

April 19, 2013 - TRAFFIC ADVISORY - Denver Metro Colorado/CDOT Region 6 - AURORA— Sunday, April 21st through Thursday. April 25th, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will close the ramp from southbound I-225 to Parker Road for ramp realignment, open trench construction of a storm sewer pipe and replacement of concrete pavement.

The closure will begin at 10 p.m. and continue until 5:30 a.m. each night. Two detours will be provided for traffic due to the distance between off-ramps:

  • Detour via Iliff Avenue: Motorists can exit at Iliff Avenue, go west on Iliff Avenue to Peoria Street, then south on Peoria Street back to Parker Road.
  • Detour via Yosemite Street: Should motorists miss the Iliff Avenue exit they can stay on southbound I-225 and exit at Yosemite Street, get back onto northbound I-225 to exit at Parker Road.

Delays are possible in the area and alternate routes are strongly advised. CDOT would like to remind motorists to obey all construction signs and flaggers and to “Slow for the Cone Zone.”

The work is part of a project that widens I-225 between Mississippi Avenue and Parker Road to accommodate three lanes in each direction with an additional auxiliary lane.  In addition, the Yale Avenue bridge over I-225 will be replaced and other minor roadway elements will be completed to accommodate RTD’s extension of light rail from Parker Road to Iliff Avenue.  The project will improve mobility and reduce congestion which will improve gas mileage and air quality.

SEMA Construction Co. is the contractor of this $43 million project scheduled to be complete by the end of July 2014. The project is being funded by CDOT and RTD.
