CDOT Improves SH 90 Uncompahgre River Bridge in Montrose

MONTROSE COUNTY – The Colorado Department of Transportation and contractor Lobos Structures begin a project today to replace the bridge deck and make other improvements on the Uncompahgre River Bridge on SH 90. Located on SH 90, near mile point 89.2 at the west edge of Montrose, the project consists of removal and replacement of the concrete bridge deck; application of a weather-proofing membrane; new bridge rail; and lane reconfiguration to accommodate a new 10-foot pedestrian pathway across the bridge that will tie into the city’s trail system.

The project, contracted to Lobos Structures for $1.14 million, significantly improves the condition and the driving surface of this 1960s bridge, extending its life for another 50 years, with routine maintenance. Also, pedestrian safety will be increased with the expansion of the sidewalk. Other work on the project includes utility relocations and waterline replacement.

TRAVEL IMPACTS: Through the project’s completion in October 2013, traffic will be reduced—24 hours a day—to two lanes from four, with one eastbound lane and one westbound lane. Also, when necessary, traffic will be fully stopped for brief periods but only during work hours, Monday through Friday, from 7AM to 5PM. Thank you for going Slow for the Cone Zone!
