I-70 Twin Tunnels Weekly Traffic Advisory

November 30, 2012 - TRAFFIC ADVISORY - Central Eastern Colorado/CDOT Region 1 - CLEAR CREEK COUNTY – Full closures of the westbound Twin Tunnel on Interstate 70 near Idaho Springs are scheduled overnight next week for minor rock scaling, rock fence installation and restriping of the roadway.

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will implement the following overnight closures:

  • Sunday, December 2, 8 p.m. to Monday, December 3, 6 a.m.
    Eastbound and westbound traffic reduced to a single lane through the eastbound bore
  • Monday, December 3, 7 p.m. to Tuesday, December 4, 7 a.m.
    Eastbound and westbound traffic reduced to a single lane through the eastbound bore
  • Tuesday, December 4, 7 p.m. to Wednesday, December 5, 7 a.m.
    Eastbound and westbound traffic reduced to a single lane through the eastbound bore
  • Wednesday, December 5, 7 p.m. to Thursday, December 6, 7 a.m.
    Eastbound and westbound traffic reduced to a single lane through the eastbound bore
  • Thursday, December 6, 7 p.m. to Friday, December 7, 7 a.m.
    Eastbound and westbound traffic reduced to a single lane through the eastbound bore

On Sunday, preparations for head-to-head traffic begin at 7 p.m., with the single lane configuration in place by 8 p.m.  Preparations begin at 6 p.m. on all other days.  When I-70 is reduced to a single lane, the speed limit will be reduced to 35 mph and vehicles wider than 11 feet will not be allowed through the area.
