I-70 Twin Tunnels Weekly Traffic Advisory

October 26, 2012 - TRAFFIC ADVISORY - Central Eastern Colorado/CDOT Region 1 - CLEAR CREEK COUNTY – Full closures of the westbound Twin Tunnel on Interstate 70 near Idaho Springs are scheduled overnight next week to grout the inside of the tunnel bore.

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will implement the following overnight closures:

  • Monday, October 29, 7 p.m. to Tuesday, October 30, 7a.m.
    Eastbound and westbound traffic reduced to a single lane through the eastbound bore
  • Tuesday, October 30, 7 p.m. to Wednesday, October 31, 7 a.m.
    Eastbound and westbound traffic reduced to a single lane through the eastbound bore
  • Wednesday, October 31, 7 p.m. to Thursday, November 1, 7 a.m.
    Eastbound and westbound traffic reduced to a single lane through the eastbound bore

OR eastbound and westbound traffic reduced to a single lane, with the left lane closed through each bore

  • Thursday, November 1, 7 p.m. to Friday, November, 2, 7 a.m.
    Eastbound and westbound traffic reduced to a single lane, with the left land closed through each bore

Preparations for head-to-head traffic begin at 5 p.m., with the single lane configuration in place by 7 p.m.  When I-70 is reduced to a single lane, the speed limit will be reduced to 35 mph and vehicles wider than 11 feet will not be allowed through the area.

Similar lane closures should be anticipated for the next several weeks, not including weekends and holidays.  Weekly advisories will continue to be distributed, detailing traffic impacts for the following week.
