Rock Work to Stop Traffic in Woodland Park
September 5, 2012 - Southeastern Colorado/CDOT Region 2 - The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will be conducting rock scaling operations along U.S. 24 on the east end of town tomorrow, requiring intermittent traffic stops.
Beginning at 9 a.m. on Thursday, September 6, highway traffic will be stopped for about 15 minutes – a few times an hour – as crews dislodge loose rocks sitting above the westbound lanes. Eastbound U.S. 24 traffic stops at Morning Sun Drive; westbound traffic at Aspen Garden Way.
The stops are expected to continue until around 1 p.m.
“There’re some bowling ball-sized rocks sitting up above the highway that tend to roll down onto the roadway when it rains so we’re going to remove all the loose ones,” said CDOT Maintenance Foreman Gary Heller. “Traffic needs to be stopped in order to maintain safe conditions for the traveling public.”
