Road Repairs Underway at I-25/Highway 50/47 Interchange
The project initially began in mid-August but CDOT put it on hold to minimize traffic impacts during the State Fair.
Work consists of removing and replacing concrete road panels, rehabilitating the bridge deck, installing new expansion joints and upgrades to the irrigation system.
Drivers can expect various closures around-the-clock:
- Sunday through Thursday, 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. – right or left lane closures on northbound and southbound I-25; single lane closures on the ramps to and from I-25. For panel and bridge work.
- Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. –– shoulder closures on I-25 for sprinkler upgrades.
- 24/7 – Traffic reduced to a single lane on either direction of I-25; only one lane open on one of the four ramps. Full-time closure required to allow the concrete to cure.
- Saturday and Sunday, 24 hours – Single, full ramp closure, detour in place. CDOT will distribute an advisory prior to the closure, specifying hours and detour route.
The speed limit is reduced to 45 mph through the work zone. Traffic slowing should be anticipated due to the single lane configurations.
“Some of the concrete panels are beginning to crack and are sinking slightly so this project will correct that, providing for a much smoother road surface for the traveling public and extending the service life of this busy segment of highway,” said CDOT Resident Engineer Dan Dahlke. “The bridge over Highways 50 and 47 also will be much smoother with a new concrete deck. New expansion joints helps extend the structure’s lifespan by enhancing its flexibility, allowing it to tolerate temperature changes better and other types of movement, from vehicles or otherwise.”
Scott Contracting Inc. of Henderson, CO. is the contractor for the $3.9 million project. All work is scheduled for completion in November 2012.
