Multiple Projects to Cause Delays on I-25 Near Downtown Denver Tonight and Tomorrow Night

August 22, 2012 - TRAFFIC ADVISORY - Denver Metro Colorado/CDOT Region 6 - DENVER – Tonight, August 22nd, and tomorrow night, August 23rd, there will be various lane and ramp closures on northbound and southbound I-25 between Colfax Avenue and 23rd Avenue and near 15th Street as part of two ongoing construction projects.

Major delays are expected along this stretch of I-25 and alternate route are strongly advised.

Motorists can expect the following closures each night:

Southbound I-25 between 23^rd Avenue and Colfax Avenue: One of southbound I-25 will be closed at 7 p.m. with a second lane closing at 9 p.m. and a third lane closing at 11 p.m. for bridge work and a traffic realignment, which will place southbound I-25 onto the new bridge over the South Platte River. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. the following morning.
Northbound and Southbound I-25 near 15^th Street: One of northbound and southbound I-25 will be closed at 7 p.m. with a second lane closing at 9 p.m. and a third lane closing at 11 p.m. for bridge work. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. the following day. A detour route will be posted.
Southbound I-25 to Colfax Avenue: The ramp from southbound I-25 to Colfax Avenue will be completely closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following day for paving operations. A detour route will be posted.
23^rd Avenue to Southbound I-25: The ramp from 23^rd Avenue to southbound I-25 will remain closed until 3:30 p.m. on August 24^th for paving operations. Traffic is being detoured to Mile High Stadium Circle Drive to Colfax Avenue and then to southbound I-25.
Westbound Speer Boulevard to Northbound I-25: The ramp from westbound Speer Boulevard to northbound I-25 will be closed from 11 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. the following day for bridge work. A detour route will be posted.
20^th Street to Southbound I-25: The ramp from 20^th Street to southbound I-25 will be closed from 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. the following day for retaining wall work. A detour route will be posted.

CDOT reminds motorists to obey all construction signs and flaggers and to “Slow for the Cone Zone.” Fines for most infractions that occur in the work zone will be doubled.

The work is part of two ongoing construction projects. The first is a safety and mobility project on I-25 between approximately 20^th Street and Speer Boulevard that replaces the 15^th Street bridge over I-25 and adds auxiliary lanes on southbound I-25 just south of 20^th Street to just south of Speer Boulevard to help eliminate the weaving at the on and off-ramps on I-25. The $11.7 million project will continue through late 2013 or early 2014.

The second project is a bridge replacement project on I-25 between Colfax Avenue and 23^rd Avenue. The existing I-25 bridges over the South Platte River were originally constructed in 1951 and are in poor condition. The $16.3 million project is scheduled to be complete by the end of August 2013.
