CDOT to Construct New Roundabout at "Society Turn", Telluride Spur Road and State Highway 145
TELLURIDE – On Tuesday, September 10th, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will begin a safety improvement project to build a new roundabout at SH 145 and Society Turn about the junction of the spur road into Telluride.
The total cost of the project is approximately $3.56 million, with $900,000 coming from Telluride, $1.03 million for safety improvements from Colorado FASTER* and the remainder from state and federal sources. The work was contracted to Williams Construction of Norwood.
“This project has been a successful state and local partnership—with a great deal of planning and coordination between CDOT and the Town of Telluride,” CDOT Resident Engineer Steven Cross said. “We’re very pleased to be getting the work underway this season.”
In addition to reconstructing the “T” intersection of SH 145 at Society Turn and transforming it into a roundabout, there will be a new rock retaining wall and resurfacing of SH 145 approaches to the roundabout.
Project Schedule and Traffic Impacts
The work this fall is expected to be completed by the end of October 2012, followed by a winter shut-down of construction activity from November 2012 through April 2013, depending on weather. The project is scheduled for completion in October 2013.
Construction hours are 9 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Traffic impacts due to construction will be limited to the hours of 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. There will be NO IMPACTS TO TRAFFIC after 3 p.m. and at this time, no night or weekend work is anticipated.
Only minor traffic impacts are expected during the fall, as crews will be relocating utilities within the project limits and doing earthwork for the temporary roundabout to be used during construction. Traffic will remain on the current roadway until spring work commences. On occasion, some roadway work may cause delays of up to 15 minutes. The multi-use path will remain open and useable throughout the project.
