US 34 Safety Improvements Project Complete

June 19, 2012 - Northeastern Colorado/CDOT Region 4 - Work finished on budget and on schedule.

LARIMER COUNTY — Crews from the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) have completed work on the safety improvements project on US 34 at Mall Road in Estes Park that began in late March of this year. The project finished on budget and on schedule.

Work included adding a left turn lane for traffic turning from westbound US 34 to Mall Road, adding and extending culverts to help with drainage, resurfacing the roadway, and adding an acceleration lane for traffic turning from Mall Road onto westbound US 34.

“The safety improvements that have been made to the intersection will serve motorists for years to come,” said CDOT Project Engineer Larry Lobato. “Before the left turn lane and acceleration lanes were added, motorists had difficulty turning and accelerating in times of heavy traffic. Now, both maneuvers can be made in a much safer manner.”

Coulson Excavating was the contractor for this $464,000 project, which was funded by Funding Advancements for Surface Treatment and Economic Recovery (FASTER) legislation, which is dedicated to improving safety and replacing poor bridges.
