One Lane Closure on I-70 near Eisenhower Tunnel Tonight

June 7, 2012 - TRAFFIC ADVISORY - Central Eastern Colorado/CDOT Region 1 - CLEAR CREEK COUNTY – The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is canceling tonight’s full closure of eastbound Interstate 70 near the Eisenhower/Johnson Memorial Tunnel (EJMT), allowing one lane to be open from the EJMT to the Loveland Pass exit, between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. tomorrow.

Eastbound I-70 has been closed to traffic from Silverthorne to the east side of the EJMT for the last couple of nights, allowing CDOT to install a new electronic message sign.  Since a majority of the installation work is complete, the highway can remain open overnight.

The closures a have allowed CDOT to install a sign bridge and new Dynamic Message Sign across all lanes of the highway, allowing road, weather and other information to be posted for drivers heading eastbound out of the EJMT.

After the installation is complete, the sign needs to be connected to fiber and go through a test period of several weeks.  CDOT expects the sign to be fully operational by the end of July.

Dynamic Message Signs provide numerous safety benefits for drivers, including enhanced readability during dry and adverse weather conditions, and full color capability for construction, speed limit and other types of highway messages.
