I-70 Glenwood Canyon Concrete Joint Replacement

June 7, 2012 - Northwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 3 - GARFIELD COUNTY – Nearly every year, the Colorado Department of Transportation repairs or replaces some of the modular joints on concrete bridge decks in Glenwood Canyon (and on the state’s other highly traveled corridors). These steel joints allow bridge structures to expand and contract.

Crews have begun removal and replacement of a joint in the eastbound lanes of the elevated portion of I-70, just east of Hanging Lake Tunnel (near mile marker 126). GA Western is the contractor for this $166,000 project.

TRAVEL IMPACTS ARE 24/7: Through the project completion on July 6 (with the exception of July 4), motorists will encounter a single-lane closure on eastbound I-70, 24-7 (while work will be underway from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, traffic must be kept off the joint at all times until it is replaced). There is a 12’ width restriction from MM 116 (Glenwood Springs) to MM 133 (Dotsero). In addition, there will be approximately four 30-minute full closures of both eastbound for crane work during the project.
