Upcoming Detours on State Highway 7/Arapahoe Road Reconstruction Project
BOULDER COUNTY — Starting tomorrow, Wednesday, May 30 at 9 a.m., the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will have two detours in place as part of the State Highway (SH) 7/Arapahoe Road highway reconstruction project.
The first detour for the project will be at the intersection of SH 7/Arapahoe Road and Cherryvale Road, where traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction for motorists. Signals at the intersection will remain in operation. A pedestrian and cyclist detour will be in place through September 2012. Eastbound pedestrians and cyclists will be routed via the bicycle trail under SH 7 to the north side of the street, east on SH 7, and then back to the south side of SH 7 past Cherryvale. Westbound travelers will use the same route in the opposite order. If the bicycle trail under SH 7 floods, pedestrians and cyclists will be re-routed south on Old Tale Road, east on McSorly Lane, and then north on Cherryvale Road to SH 7/Arapahoe Road.
For the second detour, access to Westview Drive will be closed between SH 7/Arapahoe Road and the entrance to the Seventh Day Baptist Church of Boulder, which is located at 6710 Arapahoe Road. This closure will last two weeks. A detour will be in place for motorists to access Westview Drive from the south via Baseline Road. Westbound traffic on SH 7 heading toward Westview may follow the detour route heading south on 75th, west on Baseline Road, and then north to Westview Drive. Eastbound traffic on SH 7 heading toward Westview will be detoured south on 55th Street, east on Baseline Road, and then north to Westview Drive. The Seventh Day Baptist Church of Boulder will receive a new temporary access driveway just south of the closure on Westview Drive.
The SH 7 project features two distinct sections: Cherryvale Road to Westview Drive, and Westview Drive to 75th Street. For the Cherryvale Road to Westview Drive section, SH 7 will be widened from two to four lanes with either a raised median or a center left-turn lane. From Westview Drive to 75th Street, the project will widen the road to add a center left turn lane and 10-foot shoulders. The railroad bridge near 75th Street will be replaced with wider structures to accommodate the roadway beneath.
New pedestrian facilities to be added will include a multi-use path for the entire project length and a sidewalk from Cherryvale Road to Westview Drive. On-street bike lanes and improved bus stops will also be incorporated.
Concrete Express has been awarded the contract for this $18 million dollar project that is anticipated to finish in mid-2014. Additionally, Xcel, CenturyLink, and the City of Boulder will work in coordination with CDOT for this project.
