State Highway 13 Reconstruction Project Restarts Monday after Winter Break
RIO BLANCO COUNTY — With winter weather on the way out, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will move equipment back to the State Highway (SH) 13 reconstruction site near Meeker next Monday, April 16, so work can recommence. The project had been on hold since November of last year.
A full depth reconstruction project is underway, impacting 1.95 miles of the highway from mile marker (MM) 25 to MM 27. The project will increase visibility, widen shoulders, add guardrails, and add new drainage pipes to this section of the highway. To date, crews have performed erosion control work and removed and replaced six pipes/culverts. The work was performed last fall helped crews get a head start on the project by taking advantage of favorable weather.
In the coming weeks, motorists will experience reduced speed limits from 65 MPH to 35 MPH and single lane closures through the work zone. Normal working hours will be from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Next week, there will be intermittent closures in the southbound lane of the highway so crews can clean the site and prepare for upcoming pipe work. CDOT would like to remind motorists to obey all road signs and flaggers, and to drive Slow for the Cone Zone.
The $4.9 million project contracted through Old Castle United Companies is scheduled for completion by November 2012.
