Paving Operations to Close Colfax Avenue Ramp to Northbound I-25 This Weekend
The work is part of an ongoing project that replaces I-25 bridge over the South Platte River, also known as the “Bronco Arch” bridge.
“We are reconstructing and paving the ramp to accommodate an upcoming traffic realignment that will allow us to move to the next phase of the bridge construction,” said CDOT Project Engineer Chris Paiz. “The work will take most of the weekend to complete as we need to remove existing pavement and then repave.”
During the work, the following detour routes will be in place:
- Eastbound Colfax Avenue: Motorists can take southbound I-25 to 8th Avenue where access to northbound I-25 is available.
- Westbound Colfax Avenue: Motorists can take Federal Boulevard to Speer Boulevard where access to northbound I-25 is available.
Delays are possible on the detour routes and alternate routes are strongly advised. CDOT would like to remind motorists to plan ahead, obey all construction signs and flaggers and to “Slow for the Cone Zone.” Fines for most infractions that occur in the work zone will be doubled.
The work is part of a bridge replacement project on I-25 between Colfax Avenue and 23rd Avenue. The existing I-25 bridges over the South Platte River were originally constructed in 1951 and are in poor condition. The entire project is scheduled to be complete by the end of August 2013.
Lawrence Construction Co. is the contractor for this $16.3 million project, which is being funded with federal and state funds.
