Work Underway on US 34 Safety Improvements

March 27, 2012 - Northeastern Colorado/CDOT Region 4 - This week, crews from the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) began work on a safety improvements project on US 34 at Mall Road in Estes Park.

Work will include adding a left turn lane for traffic turning from westbound US 34 to Mall Road, adding and extending culverts to help with drainage, resurfacing the roadway, and adding an acceleration lane for traffic turning from Mall Road onto westbound US 34. All work is expected to be complete by June of this year.

Motorists should plan for some delays on both directions of US 34, as the road will be reduced to one lane during the work hours of 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Flaggers will be present to direct traffic, and motorists are urged to build extra time into their schedules when driving through the area. CDOT would like to remind motorists to obey all road signs and flaggers, and to drive Slow for the Cone Zone.

Coulson Excavating is the contractor for this $464,000 project, which was funded by Funding Advancements for Surface Treatment and Economic Recovery (FASTER) legislation, which is dedicated to improving safety and replacing poor bridges.
