US 160 Bridge Improvements to Begin at US 550 Junction, West Durango

March 20, 2012 - Southwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 5 - DURANGO - On *Monday, March 26, work will begin to repair the four- lane bridge on US 160, just west of the US 550 junction (near the Double Tree Hotel).

The 45 year-old bridge, which lies between Roosa Avenue and Camino Del Rio (mile marker 83) is in need of routine maintenance, as previous work done on the structure was in 2007.

The project involves concrete bridge deck repairs and rehabilitation. Construction consists of fixing the bridge curb, patching the bridge deck to repair holes and uneven driving conditions and resurfacing the deck with two inches of new concrete.

G.A. Western Construction of Palisade is the contractor for this $479,285 project, which is scheduled for completion on May 23, 2012.

GENERAL TRAFFIC IMPACTS:  Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., though work may extend to 8PM when necessary. A single lane of traffic in both east- and westbound directions will remain open at all times. Two-lane traffic in the eastbound direction will be maintained from 7:00-9:00 a.m. and 4:00-6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, to accommodate peak period/peak directional travel.

During work hours, traffic traveling southbound on Roosa Avenue will be restricted to right turns only onto US 160; ; and there will be no turns allowed—from either US 160 direction—onto northbound Roosa. During construction, motorists should expect traffic slowing.

*Tomorrow, March 21, CDOT crews will be conducting a single day of survey work on the bridge deck, which will require single-lane closures in both directions (turning restrictions onto and off of Roosa will apply.)
