Lane Closures Scheduled for State Highway 392/I-25 Improvement Project Beginning Sunday

March 23, 2012 - TRAFFIC ADVISORY - Northeastern Colorado/CDOT Region 4 - West frontage road to be closed south of State Highway 392 for paving operations.

LARIMER/WELD COUNTIES — Beginning Sunday, March 25 at 6 p.m., the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will have lane closures related to the State Highway (SH) 392 at I-25 improvement project. Lane closures will mainly impact the frontage road on the west side of the intersection of the two highways.

Starting Sunday night and lasting until Friday, March 29 at 6 a.m., the frontage road on the west side of the intersection of the two highways will be closed south of SH 392 for paving work. The frontage road will also be closed all night Sunday for travelers heading northbound from SH 392 but will reopen on Monday by 6 a.m. At that time, traffic will be redirected from the old roadway to the new one that was paved during last week’s lane closures for the project. Detour routes will be in place and are listed below.

There will also be a closure of the northbound on-ramp to I-25 from SH 392 and of the northbound I-25 off-ramp to SH 392 on Monday beginning at 8 p.m. and lasting until Tuesday at 6 a.m.

Motorists should plan for significant slowing on SH 392 near the frontage road and should allow plenty of time to drive through the detour and diversion routes. As always, CDOT would like to remind motorists to obey all road signs and flaggers, and to drive Slow for the Cone Zone.

Motorists can expect the following lane closures and detour routes this week, weather permitting:

  • Sunday, March 25 at 6 p.m. to Monday, March 26 at 6 a.m.: The southbound and northbound lanes of the west frontage road will be closed both north and south of SH 392 approximately a quarter mile for earthwork, concrete, and asphalt paving. The frontage road north of SH 392 will reopen by Monday, March 26 at 6 a.m.
    • Northbound traffic will be detoured south to CR 30, west to CR 9, then north to SH 392.
    • Southbound traffic will be detoured to southbound I-25.
  • Sunday, March 25 at 6 p.m. through Friday, March 29 at 6 a.m.: The frontage road will be closed south of SH 392 in both directions for approximately a quarter mile for earthwork, concrete, and asphalt paving.
    • Northbound traffic will be detoured south to CR 30, west to CR 9, then north to SH 392.
    • Southbound traffic will be detoured to southbound I-25.
  • Monday, March 26 at 8 p.m. to Tuesday, March 27 at 6 a.m.: The SH 392 on-ramp to northbound I-25 and the northbound I-25 off-ramp will be closed for concrete paving. Detour routes will be in place and marked.

This work is part of a $17.5 million project that replaces the SH 392 bridge over I-25 with one that is wider to accommodate two lanes in each direction as well as a left-turn lane in each direction. There will also be a six-foot bike lane and a 6.5-foot sidewalk on each side of the bridge. The frontage road on the west side of the interchange will be realigned, and the ramps will be designed to accommodate more traffic. In addition, an expanded 90-space carpool/vanpool lot will be constructed in the southwest corner of the interchange.

Edward Kraemer and Sons, Inc. is the contractor for this project. The project is being funded by CDOT, the Federal Highway Administration, the City of Fort Collins, and the Town of Windsor.
