Lane Closures near Idaho Springs on I-70
Beginning on Tuesday, March 13, and continuing through Thursday, March 15, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will restrict traffic on westbound I-70 to one lane from the top of Floyd Hill to the bottom, about two miles. Either the right or left lane will be closed from 10 a.m. until dark as work takes place on the bridge over Clear Creek.
Drivers should anticipate some delays. However, CDOT will be monitoring traffic and adjusting and/or removing the lane closure if long backups develop.
While the work is taking place, large trucks (over 26,000 pounds) will be required to exit I-70 at the bottom of Floyd Hill (U.S. 6 interchange), travel U.S. 6 for a short distance, rejoining I-70 just west of the bridge.
In order to allow maintain safety and keep truck traffic flowing around the work zone, all vehicles traveling west on U.S. 6 will be detoured to the top of Floyd Hill via eastbound U.S. 40, and return to westbound I-70 at the Floyd Hill Interchange. Traffic wanting to exit eastbound I-70 to eastbound U.S. 6 will need to continue east on I-70 to the Floyd Hill exit, and use westbound U.S. 40 to access U.S. 6.
Once the Clear Creek Bridge work is complete, crews will move west to the Hidden Valley Bridge. Drivers can expect single lane closures on eastbound or westbound I-70 from 10 a.m. until dark, most likely on Thursday.
All work is weather permitting.
