Increased Thanksgiving Traffic at Eisenhower Tunnel

November 29, 2011 - Central Eastern Colorado/CDOT Region 1 - CLEAR CREEK/SUMMIT COUNTY – More people traveled Interstate 70 west of Denver over the Thanksgiving holiday this year than in 2010 but no records were set.

A total of 171,698 vehicles traveled through the tunnels over the five-day holiday period, about 8,000 more than last year.  Wednesday was the highest travel day this year, exceeding “the day before Thanksgiving” traffic count by more 13,000 vehicles.

The highest Thanksgiving weekend count of 201,887 vehicles was set in 2006, with 48,521traveling I-70 the day before the holiday that year.
