Runaway Truck Ramp Closed at Mile Marker 182 Near Vail Starting at 9 A.M.

October 31, 2011 - TRAFFIC ADVISORY - Both lanes of westbound I-70 will remain open.

EAGLE COUNTY — Beginning at 9 a.m. this morning, Monday, October 31, maintenance crews from the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will close the runaway truck ramp on westbound I-70 near Vail at mile marker (MM) 182. Crews will work to remove the rig and flatbed trailer of a semi truck that rolled on the ramp yesterday.

Because of the precarious positioning of the truck, which still contains hazardous material, it is unknown exactly how long the closure will last. For now, crews expect the ramp to reopen as late as 5 p.m. tonight. If the towing process goes smoothly, it may open sooner. Crews from an environmental cleanup company will be on site as well as a representative from CDOT’s environmental department.

In addition to the lane closure near Vail, motorists traveling westbound may experience additional lane closures starting at MM 189 at the top of Vail Pass due to previously scheduled construction.

CDOT would like to remind motorists to reduce speeds through the closure zone for their own safety and the safety of crews.
