Rock Scaling to Cause Delays on US 285 Near C-470 Next Week
October 21, 2011 - TRAFFIC ADVISORY - Denver Metro Colorado/CDOT Region 6 - JEFFERSON COUNTY – On Monday, October 24th and Tuesday, October 25th, weather permitting, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will conduct rock scaling operations on US 285 just west of C-470 between milepost 249 and 250.
To complete the work, there will be intermittent closures of northbound and southbound US 285 for up to 20 minutes each day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“We will be knocking down loose rock along a 200-foot section of the slope as part of our rockfall mitigation program,” said CDOT Maintenance Supervisor Ron Ratzell. “To conduct this operation safely, we need to close US 285 intermittently throughout the day.”
Delays are possible along US 285 and alternate routes are advised:
- Southbound US 285 Detour: Take C-470 west to State Highway (SH) 8. Take SH 8 west and south through Morrison back to southbound US 285.
- Northbound US 285 Detour: Take SH 8 north through the Town of Morrison and then east on SH 8 to C-470. Take C-470 east back to US 285.
CDOT would like to remind motorists to obey all construction signs and flaggers and to “Slow for the Cone Zone.” All lanes of US 285 will reopen by 3 p.m. each day.
