Hanging Lake Rest Area Closed Friday, October 14, for Xcel Energy Project at Shoshone Dam

October 7, 2011 - Northwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 3 - Hanging Lake Trailhead accessible to pedestrians, cyclists from east.

GARFIELD COUNTY –Xcel Energy has contracted with Garney Construction Company to complete repairs to the Shoshone Dam. Specifically, the work is being done over the Hanging Lake Rest Area access road.

TRAVEL/TRAIL ACCESS IMPACTS: As part of the project, expected to wrap up by the end of November, Garney will be staging equipment in the area between the hours of 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. on October 14. During this full closure of the rest area, motorists will not have access. However, those on bike or foot wanting to access the Hanging Lake Trailhead can do so by using the Glenwood Canyon Bike Path from the east (as the section west of the tunnel remains closed due to damage). Please note – parking is limited at Bair Ranch rest area to the east, a mile point 128.5.
