Full Closure of Eastbound I-270 This Weekend for Bridge Work, Expect Major Delays
The closure will be in place from 10 p.m. tonight until 5 a.m. on Monday, October 17, 2011. Major delays are expected and alternate routes such as I-25 to I-70 are strongly advised.
In addition, one lane of eastbound and westbound I-270 near Dahlia Street will be closed from 8 p.m. tonight until 5 a.m. Monday to allow crews to continue with the bridge deck rehabilitation on the bridges over Dahlia Street.
“The bridge deck work requires paving and with temperatures dropping into the thirties and forties in the overnight hours, we can no longer work on the Dahlia Street bridges during the weeknights,” said CDOT Project Engineer Bryan Kalliokoski. “By working a full weekend, we have time to conduct the bridge repairs and pave during the daytime hours so the pavement can cure at night.”
The bridge rehabilitation consists of rotomilling the existing asphalt, removing and replacing deteriorated concrete, paving, and striping. In all, the project will rehabilitate six bridge decks on I-270 including:
- Eastbound and Westbound I-270 over Dahlia Street
- Eastbound I-270 over the Burlington Ditch, which is between York Street State Highway 265 (Brighton Road)
- Eastbound I-270 over the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad
- Eastbound I-270 over the South Platte River, which is near York Street
- Eastbound I-270 over State Highway 265
To complete the work, there will be full closures of eastbound I-270 between York Street and Vasquez Boulevard and single lane closures on eastbound and westbound I-270 near Dahlia Street for approximately three more weekends.
