Highway 50/287 Project Set to Start

The Colorado Department of Department (CDOT) is replacing concrete panels, and repairing and sealing cracks at various locations on U.S. 287, beginning near Kit Carson and continuing south to Rush Creek, just south of the Kiowa/Cheyenne county line.  Initially, delays will be minimal but as work progresses, single lane closures will be in place, requiring flaggers to alternate traffic through the work zone, with delays up to 15 minutes.

Following the work on Highway 287, grinding operations will be taking place to smooth the concrete pavement along a two-mile segment of eastbound U.S. 50, between Wiley Junction and Lamar.  Some slowing should be expected through the area since traffic will be reduced to a single lane.

Project hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.  A 40 mph speed limit will be in effect through the work zone.

Replacing and repairing the concrete panels will add at least five years to the service life of the pavement.

The $928,000 project, contracted to TLM Constructors, Inc. of Greeley, CO., is scheduled for completion in November 2011.

Motorists are reminded to please Slow for the Cone Zone, stay alert and pay attention to and obey all work zone/advisory signs and flaggers.
