Highway 10 Opening Postponed
OTERO COUNTY – The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is delaying the reopening of State Highway 10 between La Junta and Walsenburg after the machine that helps install guardrail broke down. It originally was scheduled to open to traffic this afternoon.
“We can’t open the highway without the rest of the guardrail installed,” said Project Engineer Rod Abbott. “It’s a safety issue and it won’t open until it’s up to standard.”
The remaining guardrail will be installed this weekend. When the work is complete, the highway will reopen to through traffic, which is expected to be sometime tomorrow or Sunday.
Message boards along area highways will announce the opening to motorists.
