Bridge Replacement Underway on US 6 Over Eagle River

September 16, 2011 - Northwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 3 - Work funded through Colorado Bridge Enterprise

EAGLE, COLO – The Colorado Department of Transportation and contractor Concrete Express, Inc. (CEI), have begun a project to replace the Eagle River Bridge on US 6, located one mile east of the roundabout at Eby Creek Road.

The project was contracted to Colorado-based CEI for $ 2.9 million. The existing bridge, which was built in 1933, is rated in poor condition and has outlived its useful lifespan. The new bridge will be wider, and will include a third lane to better accommodate turns into and out of Nogal Road, which intersects US Highway 6 north of the bridge location. The turn lanes at Nogal Road are too short and will be extended to the bridge to address current standards and improve safety.  Completion of the bridge replacement is scheduled for May 18, 2012.

TRAVEL IMPACTS: The project will consist of two phases, building half the bridge at a time to lessen impacts to travelers. Traffic impacts will be minimal, though motorists can expect intermittent lane closures during work hours, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday. There will be no weekend work.

Replacement of the US 6 Eagle River Bridge was funded through the Colorado Bridge Enterprise, a government-owned business entity within CDOT.  The Colorado General assembly created the statewide Bridge Enterprise via Senate Bill 09-108, also known as FASTER (Funding Advancements for Surface Treatment and Economic Recovery www.coloradodot.info/projects/faster). The purpose of the Bridge Enterprise is to complete designated bridge projects that involve the financing, repair, reconstruction and replacement of bridges designated as structurally deficient or functionally obsolete, and rated “poor” by CDOT.
