Virginia Dale Rest Area on US 287 Closes for the Winter on September 8
August 31, 2011 - TRAFFIC ADVISORY - Northeastern Colorado/CDOT Region 4 - LARIMER COUNTY – On Thursday, September 8, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will close the Virginia Dale Rest Area for the winter.
The rest area is located on US 287 at milepost 383.51, approximately two miles south of the Colorado/Wyoming border.
“This rest area is often not accessible in the winter months,” said CDOT Maintenance Supervisor Tom Aguilar. “Given the fact that Colorado’s weather is unpredictable, it is necessary to close the rest area before the first snow and winter temperatures arrive to prevent water lines from freezing.”
Typically the rest area opens in May prior to Memorial Day; however the opening depends on the weather. The rest area is a popular spot in the summer for those heading into and out of Wyoming.
