Southbound Parker Road Bridge Over Arapahoe Road to Open to Traffic by Tomorrow Morning
To complete the work, there will be various single lane closures on southbound Parker Road tonight from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.
“This is a huge milestone for the project as we eliminate the traffic signals for through traffic on Parker Road,” said CDOT Project Engineer Ed Bullard. “This new alignment will not only improve the flow of traffic on Parker Road, but on Arapahoe Road as well. Since Parker Road through traffic will no longer utilize the traffic signal, there will be less wait between green lights and more green time for each direction.”
The new alignment will be in place by 5:30 a.m. on Thursday and will provide two through lanes on northbound and southbound Parker Road over Arapahoe Road. Motorists on southbound Parker Road needing access to eastbound Arapahoe Road will still use the traffic signal at Parker Road/Arapahoe Road.
Delays are possible tonight and alternate routes are advised. CDOT would like to remind motorists to obey all construction signs and flaggers and to “Slow for the Cone Zone.”
Over the next several months, crews will complete the reconstruction of westbound Arapahoe Road. By the end of October 2011, westbound Arapahoe Road will be placed in its final configuration and all three lanes of northbound and southbound Parker Road over Arapahoe Road will be open to traffic.
Hamon Constructors, Inc. is the contractor for this $32 million project, which should be complete by the end of November 2011.
