Ramp Work to Close Eastbound C-470 at Santa Fe Drive on Sunday Night
DOUGLAS COUNTY— On Sunday, August 7th, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will restripe eastbound C-470 near Santa Fe Drive in preparation of opening the new climbing lane on eastbound C-470. The new lane is part of the ongoing interchange improvement project at C-470/Santa Fe Drive.
“The new eastbound C-470 lane will continue from Santa Fe Drive to Lucent Boulevard, providing motorists, including heavy trucks, more time to reach travel speeds before merging with traffic,” said CDOT Project Engineer Scott Smith. “The new lane will be open to traffic by the Monday morning commute and will improve mobility through the area.”
To complete work, the following closures will be in place on Sunday, August 7th, weather permitting:
- Eastbound C-470 at Santa Fe Drive: One lane of eastbound C-470 will be closed starting at 8 p.m. with all lanes closing at 9 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 5:30 a.m. on Monday. Detour: Motorists on eastbound C-470 can exit at Santa Fe Drive and take County Line Road or Town Center Drive to Lucent Boulevard where access to eastbound C-470 is available.
- Santa Fe Drive to Eastbound C-470: The ramp from Santa Fe Drive to eastbound C-470 will be completely closed from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Detour: Motorists can take County Line Road or Town Center Drive to Lucent Boulevard where access to eastbound C-470 is available.
Delays are expected on Sunday and alternate routes are strongly advised. CDOT would like to remind motorists to plan ahead, obey all construction signs and flaggers and to “Slow for the Cone Zone.” Fines for most infractions that occur in the work zone will be doubled.
The work is part of a safety and mobility improvement project that constructs a flyover ramp from southbound Santa Fe Drive (US 85) to eastbound C-470. In addition, the project will construct a new bridge over Erickson Boulevard as well as a bicycle/pedestrian bridge over Erickson Boulevard. The bicycle/pedestrian trail will also be reconstructed.
The $26.7 million project is partially funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) as well as CDOT and Douglas County. Edward Kraemer and Sons, Inc. is the contractor for this project scheduled to be complete by January 2012.
