Pilot Cars Set to Direct Traffic through U.S. 40/287 Project
Beginning on Tuesday, September 6, pilot cars will alternate one lane of traffic through the four-mile work zone. This operation runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week, through November 2011. Delays up to 20 minutes should be expected. A 40 mph speed limit will be in effect and vehicles wider than 12 feet are restricted from traveling through the area.
The project begins at the east end of Hugo and continues southeasterly to mile 404. In addition to reconstructing the highway with concrete, it also includes placement of box culvert extensions, drainage improvements, striping and seeding.
Work on the $5.7 million project is scheduled for completion in December 2011.
