Overhead Sign Work to Close Northbound I-25 Near 15th Street Tonight and Tomorrow Night

August 15, 2011 - TRAFFIC ADVISORY - Denver Metro Colorado/CDOT Region 6 - DENVER — Tonight, August 15th and tomorrow night, August 16th, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will remove sign structures on I-25 between Auraria Parkway and Speer Boulevard as part of the I-25 bridge replacement project over the South Platte River, also known as the Bronco Arch Bridge.

To complete this work, there will be a single lane closure of northbound I-25 between Auraria Parkway and Speer Boulevard starting at 7 p.m. with a second lane closing at 9 p.m. and all lanes closing at 11 p.m. each night. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. the following day.  Detour Route: Motorists on northbound I-25 will be directed to Auraria Parkway then to Speer Boulevard where they can access northbound I-25.

In addition to the full closure of northbound I-25, the ramps from eastbound and westbound Colfax Avenue to northbound I-25 will be completely closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday, August 15th through Thursday, August 18th for drainage work and paving operations.  The following detour routes will be in place:

Westbound Colfax Avenue Detour Route: Motorists on westbound Colfax Avenue will take Federal Boulevard to Speer Boulevard where access to northbound I-25 is available.

Eastbound Colfax Avenue Detour Route: Motorists on eastbound Colfax Avenue will take Speer Boulevard to I-25 for access to northbound I-25.

Major delays are expected each night and alternate routes are strongly advised.  CDOT would like to remind motorists to plan ahead, obey all construction signs and flaggers and to “Slow for the Cone Zone.”  Fines for most infractions that occur in the work zone will be doubled.

The work is part of a bridge replacement project on I-25 between Colfax Avenue and 23rd Avenue.  The project replaces the I-25 bridges over the South Platte River.. The existing bridges were originally constructed in 1951 and are in poor condition.  The entire project is scheduled to be complete by the end of August 2013.

Lawrence Construction Co. is the contractor for this $16.3 million project, which is being funded with federal and state funds.
