Concrete Paving to Close Intersections on Wadsworth Parkway Between 90th Avenue and 94th Avenue this Weekend

August 26, 2011 - TRAFFIC ADVISORY - Denver Metro Colorado/CDOT Region 6 - JEFFERSON COUNTY— As part of a surface treatment project, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will reconstruct and pave four intersections this weekend on Wadsworth Parkway between 88th Avenue and 104th Avenue.

As a result, there will be several full intersection closures this weekend and major delays are expected. Alternate routes such as Indiana Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard are strongly advised.

“Paving the intersections is the most challenging component of this project as we have to completely close all lanes for a significant period of time to allow the concrete to cure,” said CDOT Project Engineer Larry Quirk.  “While detour routes will be provided, we anticipate significant delays in the area and encourage motorists to seek alternate routes. If you are heading to the Rocky Mountain Air Show take US 36, Indiana Avenue or Sheridan Boulevard to avoid the delays.”

As a result of the concrete paving, the following intersections will be closed tomorrow, August 27th and Sunday, August 28th:

  • Wadsworth Parkway at 90th Avenue: All lanes on Wadsworth Parkway and 90th Avenue will be completely closed from 4 a.m. Saturday to 4 a.m. on Sunday. Detour routes will be signed.
  • Wadsworth Parkway at 100th Avenue: All lanes on Wadsworth Parkway and 100th Avenue will be completely closed from 4 a.m. Saturday to 4 a.m. on Sunday. Detour routes will be signed.
  • Wadsworth Parkway at 92nd Avenue: All lanes of Wadsworth Parkway and 92nd Avenue will be completely closed from 4 a.m. on Sunday to 5 a.m. on Monday. Detour routes will be signed.
  • Wadsworth Parkway at 94th Avenue: All lanes on Wadsworth Parkway and 94th Avenue will be completely closed from 7:30 p.m. on Sunday to 7 a.m. on Monday. Detour routes will be signed.

In addition to the intersection closures, Wadsworth Parkway between 88th Avenue and 104th Avenue remains in a temporary alignment with only one lane open in each direction to allow crews to pave Wadsworth Parkway.

Castle Rock Construction Company is the contractor for this $4.7 million project that will pave concrete over the asphalt on approximately two miles of Wadsworth Parkway in order to extend the life of the pavement.  The project is   scheduled to be complete by the end of December 2011.
