Bridge Work to Impact Traffic at the C-470/Santa Fe Drive Interchange This Week

August 8, 2011 - Denver Metro Colorado/CDOT Region 6 - DOUGLAS COUNTY— This week, August 8th through August 11th, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will conduct bridge work for the new flyover ramp from southbound Santa Fe Drive to eastbound C-470.

The work will require various single lane closures and full closures of C-470, Santa Fe Drive and various ramps at the interchange.

To complete work, the following closures will be in place, weather permitting:

Monday, August 8th:

  • Santa Fe Drive to Eastbound C-470: The ramp from Santa Fe Drive to eastbound C-470 will be completely closed from 8 p.m. Monday until 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday.  Detour: Motorists will take County Line Road or Town Center Drive to Lucent Boulevard where access to eastbound C-470 is available.
  • Eastbound C-470 at Santa Fe Drive: One lane of eastbound C-470 at Santa Fe Drive will be closed starting at 7 p.m. with all lanes closing at 9 p.m.  All lanes will reopen by 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday.  Detour: Motorists on eastbound C-470 can exit at Santa Fe Drive and take County Line Road or Town Center Drive to Lucent Boulevard where access to eastbound C-470 is available.
  • Westbound C-470 to Santa Fe Drive: The ramp from westbound C-470 to Santa Fe Drive will be completely closed from 8 p.m. on Monday to 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday.  Detour: Motorists will take Platte Canyon Drive to Mineral Avenue where access to Santa Fe Drive is available.

Tuesday, August 9th:

  • Northbound Santa Fe Drive between C-470 and County Line Road: One lane of northbound Santa Fe Drive will be closed starting at 7 p.m. with all lanes closing at 9 p.m.  All lanes will reopen by 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday.  Detour: Motorists will take westbound C-470 to Platte Canyon Drive.  Take Platte Canyon Drive to Mineral Avenue where access to Santa Fe Drive is available.
  • Westbound C-470 to Santa Fe Drive: The ramp from westbound C-470 to Santa Fe Drive will be completely closed from 8 p.m. on Tuesday to 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday.  Detour: Motorists will take Platte Canyon Drive to Mineral Avenue where access to Santa Fe Drive is available.

Wednesday, August 10th:

  • Northbound Santa Fe Drive between C-470 and County Line Road: One lane of northbound Santa Fe Drive will be closed starting at 7 p.m. with all lanes closing at 9 p.m.  All lanes will reopen by 5:30 a.m. on Thursday.  Detour: Motorists will take westbound C-470 to Platte Canyon Drive.  Take Platte Canyon Drive to Mineral Avenue where access to Santa Fe Drive is available.
  • Southbound Santa Fe Drive between County Line Road and C-470: One lane of southbound Santa Fe Drive will be closed starting at 7 p.m. with all lanes closing at 9 p.m.  All lanes will reopen by 5:30 a.m. on Thursday.  Detour: Motorists will take County Line Road to Lucent Boulevard where access to westbound C-470 is available. Take westbound C-470 back to Santa Fe Drive.

Thursday, August 11th:

  • Southbound Santa Fe Drive between County Line Road and C-470: One lane of southbound Santa Fe Drive will be closed starting at 7 p.m. with all lanes closing at 9 p.m.  All lanes will reopen by 5:30 a.m. on Friday.  Detour: Motorists will take County Line Road to Lucent Boulevard where access to westbound C-470 is available. Take westbound C-470 back to Santa Fe Drive.

Delays are expected throughout the week and alternate routes are strongly advised.  CDOT would like to remind motorists to plan ahead, obey all construction signs and flaggers and to “Slow for the Cone Zone.”  Fines for most infractions that occur in the work zone will be doubled.

The work is part of a safety and mobility improvement project that constructs a flyover ramp from southbound Santa Fe Drive (US 85) to eastbound C-470.  In addition, the project will construct a new bridge over Erickson Boulevard as well as a bicycle/pedestrian bridge over Erickson Boulevard.  The bicycle/pedestrian trail will also be reconstructed.

The $26.7 million project is partially funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) as well as CDOT and Douglas County.  Edward Kraemer and Sons, Inc. is the contractor for this project scheduled to be complete by January 2012.
