Surface Improvement Project on Powers Boulevard

July 28, 2011 - Southeastern Colorado/CDOT Region 2 - EL PASO COUNTY – The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is chip sealing a two-mile segment of State Highway 21 (Powers Boulevard) near the Colorado Springs Airport next week.

On Monday, August 1, single lane closures will be in place on northbound or southbound Powers Boulevard, between Bradley Road and Fontaine Boulevard, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  A reduced 35 mph speed limit will be in effect through the work zone so drivers should expect slower than usual traffic.

Upon completion of the work, sweepers will be operating on the highway Monday evening, cleaning any of the remaining small, loose rocks prevalent in chip seal resurfacing areas.

Chip sealing is a preventative maintenance operation, extending a highway’s effective surface life three to five years.

Motorists are reminded to please Slow for the Cone Zone, stay alert and pay attention to and obey all work zone/advisory signs and flaggers.
